About the company
At what age can you go horse-riding?
People over the age of 12 can ride without a guardian, but people between the ages of 12 and 18 must have their guardian’s written consent for the trip. However, horse-riding skills are assessed on the spot for each rider, regardless of age. If the coming rider is under 12 years old, please contact us by email.
How long horse-riding experience is needed for being able to join riding excursions?
The riders’ skills are assessed on the spot and, the riders are divided into groups according to their level if necessary. Please note that the riding takes place entirely off-road. It is possible to get lessons in the field from a riding instructor for an additional fee. Previous experience in trail riding is not necessary, but the horse must be able to be mastered all gaits. The starting point is that every rider is able to saddle and take care of their horse themselves. If necessary, you can get help from the leaders in caring and saddling the horses. Beginners are also welcome. A suitable group will be tailored for them and together we will choose suitable horses with which they can safely get to know the Hungarian Puszta.
If I come for horse-riding with my family, does all my family need to ride?
You can come perfectly with the whole family. There is plenty to do on the farm and in the surrounding area for everyone. There are many possibilities, for example: go-karting, hiking, cycling, spa/swimming pool, trips to Budapest, a visit to a winery or pampering treatments on the farm. Please note the different daily prices when you book your trip.
Is it possible to come to the stable for hose-riding without accommodation?
Yes it is. We can also arrange transportation to the farm and back to your accommodation, if necessary,. A visit to the farm can be combined not only with horse-riding, but also with dining and other activities. We have the opportunity to organize other activities according to your wishes.
Do you need any insurance or similar?
Horse-riders need travel insurance. In case you are a citizen of an EU country, you should also have a free common European medical card for EU countries that can be applied for from your national health care provider. The card is usually sent by mail in about two weeks. The card is free of charge. You need a medical card because it makes it much easier to get municipal medical care on the spot.
*The holder of the European medical card receives medical treatment necessary for medical reasons while staying in another EU country. Each country provides medical care according to its own legislation and system. The traveler receives the corresponding Medical Services at the same deductible costs as the own citizens of the country in question.”
However, the medical card does not provide compensation for exceptional transportation from outside the Nordic countries to Finland due to illness or accident. For this reason, the trip must be accompanied by private travel insurance that covers these costs.
What kind of riding equipment should you take with you on the trip?
A CE-marked helmet and riding shoes with heels are mandatory. Although we try to schedule ridings in the morning and evening, it can be really hot in the summer, so you should choose your clothing according to the time of your vacation. Riding gloves may be necessary, even if it’s hot. Riding boots and mini chaps are recommended. You should always take rain gear with you on your trip. You don’t need your own crop or spurs.
Do I need to bring my own towels and linens?
No need. Linens and towels are available in the rooms. However, it is good to have your own towel with you for an excursion to one of the thermal baths or swimming pools.
What kind of horses are there in the stable? How do I find the right horse for myself?
There are 14 horses, including a few ponies. Most of the horses are Hungarian half-breeds. Everyone will surely find a suitable horse with the help of the guides. All horses are kind and used to the terrain.
Will I be able to speak English on the spot?
The farm’s host couple and the horse riding leaders speak/understand English.
What is the local time in Hungary?
Hungary is in the Central European Time zone (CET).
What is the climate like in Hungary? When is the best time to travel?
Hungary’s weather is continental: summers are hot and winters are cold.
Tourists are welcome at any time of the year. You can find local weather information, e.g. www.eumet.hu. www.foreca.fi
Which means of payment are accepted on site? What currency should you bring with me?
At Akác-tanya you can pay for accommodation/services with forints, euros or a bank card. Please be prepared that you cannot use credit/bank cards to pay for purchases in the shops of the nearby village. However almost every village has the possibility to withdraw money (forint) with a card. The most common bank cards are also accepted in Budapest.
The farm has the option of exchanging small amounts from euros to forints. If you plan to change larger amount of currency, it is always better to change in Hungary, because the exchange rate abroad is usually worse. Currency exchange at the airport should be avoided.
Are there going to be hikes or similar next summer as well?
According to our current information, yes. What has changed compared to previous years is that horse-riding hikes are organized only for prepared groups (6-8 people). You must also have riding experience in cross-country riding. Ask more here: info@akactanya.hu
